Hello, my name is Nicole. I am a student at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. I am currently taking an Intro to Women's Studies course. For a final project, my group is researching Junior High girls. We are focusing on their pressures, how important their appearances are to them, how boys affect their attitudes, appearances, decisions, etc. We are also asked to find information in order to write a research paper. I found your web site and was wondering if you could help lead me in any direction where I can find helpful information that is not too outdated----I've been finding that a lot of statistics, etc. is really outdated. The only source I have found helpful was the book School Girls. Any information you have concerning this topic would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Thanks for your note to FEMINIST.COM. I read your note immediately after I finished reading Joan Brumberb's book -- The Body Project (Random House, 1997). It is just what you are looking for. There is also Naomi Wolf's book The Beauty Myth, although the former may be more "timely" and historical at the same time.

Good luck -- and let me know if you need more suggestions.
