Hi, my name is Kelly and I'm researching Battered Women's Syndrome. If you could send me any information about this condition or refer me to cases or books, it would be much appreciated. I am a university student and am writing an assignment on the condition in reference to criminal law. Please send me any relevant information.

Thanks,

Kelly

Dear Kelly,

Battered Women's Syndrome is a pretty dated term, though it is still used today. Essentially it was pre-consciousness about the prevalence and really existence of domestic violence -- it was an attempt to blame the battered woman, and that certainly still happens today, but it has diminished. Try the Family Violence Prevention Fund for more information -- and also Ms. magazine, which has always done groundbreaking work in reporting on this area.
