I
was wondering if you could help
me. While I was at college,
I saw a documentary about 3
white women who were active
in the Civil Rights movement.
As a result of their "activities,"
they were arrested. The film
dealt with the institutionalized
state torture of these women,
who were deprived of sleep,
social interaction, privacy,
etc. At the end of the film,
they were being held in a facility
somewhere in Florida. I haven't
given you much to go on, but
if you could possibly send me
a list of films which deal with
state torture of Americans in
America, I would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance for your
help. Sheron

Per
your note to Feminist.com,
unfortunately, I don't know
what film you are referencing.
There are a couple of places
that I suggest you contact for
this and/or similiar films:
1.) Women Make Movies
(based in NYC.)
2.) The MacAuthur Foundation
and the Ford Foundation--both
fund progressive documentary film work and, therefore, might
be able to lead you to some
of these films.
3.) Third
Wave, a national organization
for young feminists, has a resource
guide--videos is a subcategory.
If you send me your mailing
address--I can send it to you.
There is also something in New
York City called the film archives.
They may have a breakdown on
subjects.
