I am doing a paper for graduate program in social work and exploring if social security is gender biased... If anyone is available thru your organization to interview or if you can direct me to material on this I would be grateful...Thanks, Diane

Thanks for your note to FEMINIST.COM. Unfortunately, Social Security is inherently gender-biased, primarily because there is no value ascribed to domestic work. Therefore, women have little room to save for retirement. To learn more about this you should reference the work of the following people:

1.) Heidi Hartmann of the Institute for Women's Policy Research based in Washington, DC.

2.) Also, read anything by Edith Fierst. She used to be on the President's Social Security Council.

Also, the June/July issue of Ms. Magazine will also have a story on this.
