Greetings! I am a law student and I an currently doing a thesis on the "mail-order bride" industry and its effect on women and the feminist movement. I've been searching the net for any news or articles written on the subject. Unfortunately, all I've got are the sites offering mail-order brides. I am so glad I came across your site and found the "Ask Amy" portion. Can you please help me where I can possibly locate intellectual and academic papers tackling the mail-order bride industry. I am focusing on the freedom of choice of women also. Thank you very much.

Thanks so much for your note to FEMINIST.COM--and I'm glad that we can provide some sense of reason in the middle of an oversexed internet. (Having just said that, I hope that doesn't mean that we are sexless?) For information on mail order brides--my first suggestion is Equality Now--based in New York City. As an international organization working to make women's rights a part of human rights--they have lots of trusted information on the topic. They can also direct you to other sources.

I discovered another resource that might help locate information on mail order brides:

The Regional Consultation on Violence Against Women had as one of its focuses trafficking in women. To learn more contact Virada Somswasdi at the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development--[email protected]

Also, for information exchange on trafficking in women and girls, you should contact Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy at: [email protected]
