Violence

Hi,

My name is Emily and I am a student doing a paper on the roots of violence against women in Canada, and was wondering if you could tell me anything in regards to that subject. I understand that you may not get to this, but it would be greatly appreciated. I love your site! It's very informative! There are so many different kinds of violence against women, I don't know where to start. What are the historical reasons why violence against women is so prevalent?

Thank you,

Emily

Emily,

I think that the history of violence isn't necessarily different from country to country, but generally a reaction to control and insecurity, etc. You should read Sven Nordquist’s Exterminate All the Brutes and also a book by Sandy Bloom on the history of violence. And I believe that James Gilligan also tackled this subject.

Good luck,

-- Amy
