Violence

Hello,

Please tell me if it is substantiated that violence against women increases during Super Bowl Sunday? Do the hospitals increase their staffs because of the link losing and violence against a spouse? My husband read an article in the New York Times saying this has not been substantiated. I've read otherwise, but don't remember where.

Thank you,
Shauna

Violence against women does not increase during the Super Bowl. This is media myth that domestic violence advocates have been trying to get over since it was launched into the media several years ago. What advocates say is that it is a crime that is committed on this day and other days of the year, too. You can learn more by contacting the Family Violence Prevention Fund and they have lots of information about this "rumor" and what to say.
