Hi! This is a really interesting web site, and I would like some more information on the number of women who are adult survivors of incest and other information that can be given out during a presentation that I am currently working on. Can you help me with this? Thank you.

The commonly used statistic says that "one-in-four" women are victims of rape, incest or sexual molestation before the age of 18. (FYI, for boys it's one-in-seven.) For more accurate information, it is best to contact organizations working directly on this issue and/or books devoted to this subject. I have had many similar questions in the past, so if you do a search at Ask Amy for "incest" you will uncover many of these references. In particular, you should consult Judith Herman's books: Trauma and Recovery and Father/Daugher Incest. Good luck.
