Veronique Raskin is the president
and founder of OrganicWineCompany
based in San Francisco. Her brother,
Michel Ginoulhac, MD, a winemaker
himself, is wine selector and chief
importer for the business.
Raised on a vineyard estate in the
Languedoc region of southern France
they have an extensive history in
the wine industry. Their Grandfather
converted the family vineyard to organic
production in 1970 and in 1980 Veronique
began importing their wine to the
US. Since then they have been involved
not only in the organic wine importing
business but also in passionately
supporting and promoting organic viticulture.
Veronique is one of the founders and
past Secretary of OGWA (Organic Grapes
into Wine Alliance). Their portfolio
of fine organic wines has grown to
almost fifty and has expanded to Italy,
Spain, Portugal and New Zealand.
The wines are imported to the United
States from the finest wine growing
regions of France and Italy, including
Alsace, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Bourgogne
(Burgundy), Languedoc, Provence, Côtes
du Rhône, and Champagne in France;
Tuscany and Veneto in Italy; Rioja
in Spain, Portugal and New Zealand.
Their producers are small farmers,
dedicated to stewardship of the earth
by using methods as close to the traditional
methods as possible. Many of them
converted to organic viticulture over
30 years ago. Some are also biodynamic.
