Running Ask Amy [a previous advice column at Feminist.com] was a joy of my life. It was reaching people that weren't feminist identified — it was just somebody that went on and was like, "I'm a new mom, what do I do?" And I wish the internet was still that pure, where you could kind of capture the people that were just curious and interested. Because I do believe that there's more people that are aligned than unaligned, but it's finding each other, because the spaces are so divided.
I would just ask within feminist spaces that we bring more forgiveness and grace, because I feel like there's a lot of division and tensions and a lot of people who, in spaces that were designed for sharing and speaking truths, there's a lot of silencing going on. And so just give people a little bit of room to maybe say a wrong thing, but to kind of tell them why it's wrong and bring them along. And I always invoke Carol Gilligan because I do think that the thing women still need to do is to take up more space and trust their own voice.
