Where Do We Go From Here?

Mini Timmaraju

CEO and President of Reproductive Freedom for All

Interview with Marianne Schnall
Mini Timmaraju

Trump takes office again on January 20. For those of us working to advance gender equality and intersecting issues, where do we collectively go from here? How do we make progress?

The road to protecting reproductive freedom was never going to be won or lost in one election, but with the vast majority of Americans in our corner, this fight is far from over. We can and we will fight to protect our fundamental rights. At Reproductive Freedom for All, we are going to be doing three things: building our movement’s power, holding Republican lawmakers—including Trump—accountable, and preparing for elections in 2026 and beyond.

  1. We must continue mobilizing on the ground to build our movement’s power. 8 in 10 Americans support the right to abortion. We are the majority, and we will be heard.
  2. We must continue our work to hold Republican lawmakers, including Trump, accountable. Trump and other Republicans won this election by telling Americans that they wouldn’t ban abortion nationwide, and we must hold them to their word.
  3. And we must prepare for 2026, when we will have another opportunity to kick MAGA extremists out of power and elect champions who will fight to protect and restore our freedoms. As we always say: When you come for our rights we will come for your seats.

What is your call to action on the issues you are most passionate about?

This inauguration marks a recommitment and a pledge to fight every day to protect reproductive freedom as the man responsible for the fall of Roe v Wade and the escalation of our nation’s abortion access crisis is sworn in as our 47th president. This is not the time to check out or sit back. It’s the time to double down, get new community members and friends involved, and continue to grow our movement. We have a clear mandate from voters to protect reproductive freedom. The American people are watching, and we have their backs.
